Hiya Cap!

I would hate to see the dollar figures of all that is spent in America on pets. I'm sure it's probably larger than the gross national product of half the countries in the world. But they can be so cool! We've had our 15 year old Labrador longer than one of our daughters, and she's like part of the family (the dog, I'm speaking of. The daughter is not 'like part of the family,' she actually is family). And our cat really earns his keep. We figure he snagged about 200 mice this past fall. Having pets is part of what being an American is all about. Your anecdote reminds me of a story, completed about a year ago, which will (tentatively) be in Adventure! Digest #5 or #6, called "It's the Thought," and it involves a misunderstanding with a white long-haired cat. It seems the person purchasing the cat wants it as a pet, but the proprietor of the Chinese restaurant misunderstands, and I can't go any further or I'll spoil the suspense. If you promise to write a WWII submarine story, maybe I'll send you a text file.

Don't give up hope on your book. I think even Grisham and his ilk have to wait about six months from the time they send in their manuscripts until the time they actually see the hardcover book.

Delighted to be part of your cyber-crew, oh captain, my captain.

Bill
