: I always pictured that perhaps Jake met Corky at a bar when he (Corky) was drunk and getting himself into trouble with some rough characters. Jake, the good guy that he is, sees this happening and helps Corky. Corky is indebted to his new friend, and when he learns that Jake is in need of a mechanic he suggests himself for the job. Why Guatemala? Oh, there has to be some crazy reason why they're there. Maybe Corky doesn't *know* why he's there (he forgot?). And Jake could be there because he flew somebody there for big bucks. And he brought his mechanic with him, but his passengers, who turned out to be drug lords, killed the mechanic and... oh, wait. Sorry, don't get me started. I'm so much more in the mood to write TV shows than work right now .

: Can't wait to see the story!

: Kathy

I was into an e-mail discussion with one other person on this issue, and he helped a *lot* with some of the background (1930's Guatemala, etc). The problems look like they're in the timeline. Corky was a chief mechanic for PanPacific when his sister was killed, which started him on the drinking road. And of course there's the issue of Corky rescuing Jake from the burning TriMotor airplane (I think that scene's either in the episode "Shangheid", or the Pilot episode--I forgot which). Then there's Jake's stint in Spain fighting the war, and Jake rescuing Corky from a Shanghai gutter...etc. Needless to say, I've got a few ideas going. We'll just have to see what happens! I'm as pumped about writing it as I am doing the research on it...Tell me about writing over work--! It's gonna get me in trouble some day (hopefully not any time soon! ;-))
