Your comment about the aviation influence reminded me of another old movie. It was called "China Clipper" and starred Humphrey Bogart and Pat O'Brien. Made about 1936 and not available on video as far as I can tell.
The regular Pan American clipper service to destinations across the Pacific is part of the lore and legend of those places and those times. Don't you agree?
