That ad has been on my mind for years, as you can tell. I used to have a few of the old Playboy magzines from the 60s (my college years) but they were eventually discarded somewhere along the road of life. It would be a monumental task to try to track down the company that put the ad campaign together but wouldn't it be a hoot if it turned out that the ad was based on a "real" legend of the South Pacific.
The brass monkey cocktail is made with rum and orange juice basically but there are several variations. The Captain is right -- you could do a search on "brass monkey" and find all of them, I'm sure.
